How to avert the recurrence of Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity is one of the most painful dental issues that many people experience during their lifespan. If you pass on hot or cold beverages because you know they will make your teeth hurt, you are suffering from tooth sensitivity. But here’s good news! If you have tooth sensitivity, you can prevent the pain from recurring.

There are many ways by which you can prevent the recurrence of pain from tooth sensitivity. Some of the ways are listed below:

  1. If you are suffering from tooth sensitivity then don’t use a hard-bristled toothbrush because that can contribute to both gum recession and loss of tooth enamel. People suffering from sensitive teeth should use a soft-bristled brush to keep their gums and enamel clean and strong.
  2. Another thing that one should not do is they should try not to brush their teeth too hard because if you clean your teeth with a heavy hand, you might be taking off more than just plaque.
  3. You should also try not to eat acidic food and drinks because acidic food and drinks like Soda, sticky candy, high-sugar carbs, citrus fruits, tomatoes, pickles — all of these scrumptious treats attack your enamel.
  4. Instead, you should eat Fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, Cheese, Milk, and plain yogurt as these foods will moisten your mouth and help fight acid and bacteria.
  5. If you are thinking of whitening your teeth then you must schedule it for later as it may cause you pain. But if you still have scheduled an appointment with your dentist for a tooth whitening treatment, then you must consider using a sensitive toothpaste for two weeks prior to the whitening treatment as they provide potassium nitrate to your tooth nerves, to soothe them. You can also talk to your dentist about this.

Although there are certain conditions that may give rise to pain and when you feel it, you should immediately visit your Dentist to help you ease the pain because if your case gets serious, you might have to go through a root canal.

It is important to conduct proper oral hygiene care at home by brushing your teeth two times a day with a good toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. You should brush for at least two minutes and change your toothbrush every three months as recommended by Dentists.

You should also talk to your Dentist to discuss options that can help you prevent tooth sensitivity and determine the best solutions for tooth sensitivity.
